Friday News

Dear Families,

In 2nd grade math class we got to use iPads and we got to pick our own games.  It is very fun.  Today we just learned about straight edges.  Mrs. DiFeo drew little dots and we had to draw a line between the dots using a straight edges.  We also had to write letters on top of the dots.

We are working in reading to build our stamina.  Stamina is doing anything for a long period of time without stopping or giving up.  Right now we are able to read silently for 11 minutes.  Our goal is to be able to read silently for 20 minutes.  We also get to pick our own places to sit in the classroom to read.  It's awesome!

Here is a new video our class really likes.  It is called Sesame Street: Share It Maybe.

Have an awesome weekend and enjoy your 3 days off!

Friday News

This week we learned about Martin Luther King Jr.  He was an African American who wanted to everyone to be treated equally.  When Martin was a kid, African Americans had to stand at the end of lines, sit in the back of the bus, and go to separate restaurants.  Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to change this when he grew up.

We also learned about a woman named Rosa Parks.  She was sitting in the front of the bus but because she was African American she was supposed to sit in the back.  The bus driver told her to get out of the seat and she said no.  She was arrested.

Today we got to go to a concert.  The concert was put on by a brass trio from the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.  A brass trio is three people that play brass instruments.  There was a trumpet, a french horn, and a trombone.  They played lots of music for us.  Our class favorite was their first song which was the main theme from Star Wars. We learned that all three musicians started playing their instruments in 5th grade.  The musicians showed us other objects that could be played as musical instruments.  They showed us how to play a cow horn, a seashell, and a rubber hose.  It was a good concert.

Have a great 3 day weekend!

Friday News

Dear Families,

This week has been great because we got to play with our friends.  We got to play outside at recess.  We got to play in snow piles.  It was awesome.

We have been working on our resolutions.  We made people that look like us holding our resolutions.  We also rewrote our resolutions.

In science we learned about solids, liquids, and gases.  We went to the computer lab, went on our blog, and played games about solids, liquids, and gases.  In one of the games we could freeze stuff and melt stuff.  It was really fun.

Look on YouTube!  Our winter concert is on YouTube!

Friday News (a few days late)

Families,

I am sorry for our Friday News being so late.  I was out of the classroom last Friday and asked the students to work together to write an update.  Here is their Friday News:

Dear Families,

This week in 2nd grade we were using iPads.  The game we played was Hungry Fish.  In 1st grade, we worked on timelines. We were also working on number scrolls.

We started learning  about New Year’s resolutions.  A resolution is a goal you set for yourself because you want to change something in your life.  We made home resolutions, school resolutions, and personal resolutions.

In science we are talking about gases, solids, and liquids.  This is called matter.  Everything in the world is a solid, liquid, or gas. A rock is a solid.

Enjoy your week!
